How to Have an Amazing Boudoir Session

A guide to help you feel prepared, confident, and deeply celebrated.

If you're reading this, you're probably feeling a mix of excitement, nerves, and maybe a few butterflies in your stomach. First, let me just say this: you're not alone. Every woman who steps in front of my lens has her own reasons for booking a boudoir session, but they all share one common thread—they want to feel powerful in their skin. And you will.

This guide is here to walk you through everything you need to know so that you show up feeling grounded, gorgeous, and ready to step into your own magic.

What to Expect

This isn't just a photoshoot. It's an experience rooted in connection, trust, and a whole lot of hype (because I will be your biggest cheerleader from the first click of the shutter). We'll start by chatting through your vision, comfort levels, and goals for the session. The shoot itself is laid-back and super collaborative—I’ll guide you every step of the way with flattering poses, natural movement, and plenty of breaks when you need them.

Expect laughter, music, gentle direction, and an atmosphere where you feel safe, seen, and celebrated.

How to Plan

Here are a few things to consider as we lead up to the session:

  • Pick your outfits thoughtfully. Choose 2–4 looks that make you feel good in your body—not just sexy, but powerful. This could be lingerie, an oversized shirt, a favorite bra and jeans, a robe, or even just a sheet. Don’t underestimate the vibe of cozy and undone. We’ll chat ahead of time if you need help narrowing it down.

  • Bring accessories and layers. Think earrings, a lace robe, a leather jacket, or heels you adore. These small details help bring variety to your final gallery.

  • Think about how you want to feel. Confident? Soft and dreamy? Bold and edgy? Romantic? Your session should reflect you. We’ll build the session around that energy.

I highly recommend getting professional hair and makeup done for your session. Not because you need it—but because it can be a total confidence boost and sets the tone for the day. I work with talented artists who specialize in natural, glowing looks that photograph beautifully. If you'd like referrals, just let me know!

That said, you’re also welcome to do your own hair and makeup, especially if that feels more authentic to you. This is your shoot.

How to Prepare Physically (Optional, Not Required!)

You do not need to change a single thing about your body to be worthy of this experience. With that said, here are a few tips to help you feel your best:

  • Hydrate. Seriously. Drink plenty of water in the few days leading up. It helps your skin glow and your body feel refreshed.

  • Moisturize. Especially the night before and the morning of. Smooth skin photographs beautifully.

  • Avoid tight clothing the day of your session (like tight socks or bras) to prevent red marks on your skin.

  • Hair removal (if desired) should be done 1–2 days prior to avoid irritation. Shaving/waxing is totally optional—whatever makes you feel best.

  • Nails: Clean, simple nails look great. A fresh coat of polish (neutral or bold) or just neat and natural is perfect.

  • Tanning: Skip the self-tanner unless it’s professionally done—uneven color shows up easily on camera.

  • Sleep: Try to get a solid night of rest the night before. You'll feel better in your body and your energy will show it.

After Your Session

After your shoot, I’ll carefully edit your gallery and deliver your images within a few weeks. You’ll get a private, online gallery where you can view, download, and choose your favorites. If you're investing in an album, I’ll help design it for you—it’s one of the most rewarding parts of this process. Seeing yourself in print is a whole different level of empowerment.

Final Thoughts

You don’t need to lose weight, be “good” at posing, or feel like a model to book this experience. All you need is a willingness to show up and be seen—exactly as you are. That’s where the power lives.

And I’ll be with you every step of the way.

You’ve got this.
