Wedding at Golden Gate Canyon State Park, CO
What an amazing day! This wedding was a destination wedding for a small group of Texans coming to enjoy the gorgeous Colorado summer weather and glean in the gorgeous views. The wildfires in the summer of 2020 were so intense that we thought we would hardly have any views, but thanks to a random rainstorm, the sky cleared up for all those rolling mountain ranges. We also needed to be cautious to social distance, especially since several guests were at risk. Creatively, I loved the challenge of doing different types of portraits socially distanced, ensuring everyone feels comfortable and safe.
When I showed up for their ceremony, it was starting to sprinkle. I was thankful for the clouds at high noon, but watching those rainy clouds roll in on the ridge closest to us made me so nervous for their outdoor ceremony. Thankfully, Clara and Thomas were all about the outdoor ceremony, so we moved forward with a condensed ceremony. After their ceremony, we walked to an aspen grove and were pleased to see fall arriving in late August. We explored the hills and mountainsides for the next two hours before we went to a barn for their reception. Ultimate frisbee, two-stepping, and local desserts and drinks made up all the wonderful parts of their reception. I truly had an absolute blast at their wedding, and I hope that more couples see their wedding as an example of how to experience their own wedding day that’s unique, financially responsible and a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
One thing I LOVE about Colorado weddings is that they are extremely affordable and all beautiful. Their wedding, including all the travel from Texas, cost less than 10k. That is an incredible price, and the experience is completely unique. I highly recommend breaking tradition, taking your closest loved ones to the mountains, and celebrate out in nature all weekend.
